After years of anticipation, Napa’s Costco store will open in October, according to a letter the retailing giant recently sent to the city of Napa Planning Division.
“This Costco location will prove to be extremely desirable to the public by providing area residents, workers and business with an extraordinary shopping selection at a reasonable price,” the letter said of the warehouse store, which will be open daily.
Costco also recently applied for a permit from the city to install four exterior Costco Wholesale signs on a “fuel canopy.” The gasoline pumps will be located on the south side of a large parking lot.
The membership store itself will be 157,417 square feet.
The address used for Costco to this point is 1025 Kaiser Road. According to Napa County Assessor’s Office data, other Napa Costco addresses include 276 or 280 Riversound Way.

Napa’s Costco will be open between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. It will employ up to 300 “local residents,” according to the company letter.
Google searches show the Napa Costco is currently hiring both full- and part-time customer service people, cashiers, medication technicians and pharmaceutical care technicians.
“We are looking for individuals who can thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment,” reads the cashier job posting. “No experience required. Great benefits and promotions within.”
Pay for Costco jobs could range from $17 to $46 per hour, according to various online job postings.
For locals wondering how Costco will handle an increased number of vehicles visiting the popular warehouse site, a second entrance and exit will also be created to serve the store.
Shoppers can get to the Costco via Kaiser Road and then turn left at a newly installed roundabout onto the former Syar Way (renamed Riversound Way). Customers will also be able to visit Costco through a new street connected to Anselmo Court, which is almost directly across the street from the Meritage Resort and Spa property. To accommodate increased traffic, a new stoplight has been installed at the corner of Anselmo Court and Napa Valley Corporate Way.
Costco declined to provide more details about its new Napa warehouse.
“We cannot comment on locations that will be opening more than three months from today,” read a statement from the corporate website.
However, the letter from Costco included this statement to the city:
“Costco is considered a valuable member of any community … and this location will be no different. Costco values the partnership of its members and looks for ways to create conveniences for the community.”
In a 2020 Napa Valley Register interview, Tom Marshall, the executive vice president of the Oakland-based developer Catellus, spoke about the efficiency of the nationwide big-box store’s construction tactics.
“Once they get started, it really doesn’t take them very long to build a Costco,” Marshall said at that time.
According to the website for MG2, the company that designs Costco warehouses, “it takes just 110 days from the time construction begins to the moment doors open to their members.”
In 2020 the Register reported that the Napa Costco will be slightly larger than the average Costco shopping warehouse and will feature the same services found in most others: gas pumps, tires, a food court, optical, hearing aids, a bakery, pharmacy, photo center and other amenities.
The Costco Wholesale Corp. purchased its designated 16-acre parcel at the former Napa Pipe industrial site in December 2023. The sale price was $5 million, according to the transfer tax paid.
Napa Pipe, now known as RiverSound, is said to include 945 residences, a hotel, light industrial uses, parks, trails and a Napa Valley Vine Trail connection, wetlands, a beach club, water uses and the Costco. It could also include housing for seniors.
More development should be coming. Next to the Costco parcel, a 19-acre site at RiverSound remains for sale at an unlisted price. Using an address of 1025 Kaiser Road, this corner of the property is marketed as five parcels ranging in size from two to six acres.
