We have prepared this guide to help you better understand the investment income tax information being mailed to you.

Depending on your investment holdings, you may receive a variety of income tax information slips. This guide lists these tax slips and their approximate mailing dates, and indicates the information that we are required to report to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenue Quebec.

We hope this guide will help simplify your financial life during this tax season.

REMINDER: When your tax documents become available you can access them through eDocuments.

Your tax reporting package may include:

  1. T5 Statement of Investment Income summary

  2. For your reference, your tax package will include a statement summary of Income and Expenses posted to your account during 2020. CRA requires BMO InvestorLine to report your investment income on this CRA authorized form. These slips will be mailed the week of February 22, 2021.

    Reportable income includes:

  • dividends from taxable Canadian corporations, including the value of stock dividends
  • interest from Canadian sources
  • foreign income (including the value of foreign spin-offs) and any foreign tax paid by you
  • accrued interest earned during the year (but not yet received) on compound instruments such as GICs and Canada Savings Bonds

Note: Interest on short-term Money Market instruments and Accrual Notes cannot be reported on the T5. It is the responsibility of the investor to report this income type on their annual tax return.

  • Statement of securities transaction

  • For your reference, this statement is a summary of security trading activity for 2020.

CRA and Revenue Quebec require us to report only dispositions of securities in your account. Actual capital gain and loss calculations may require transaction information from prior years. You may wish to seek professional tax advice to assist with these calculations. These slips will be mailed the week of February 22, 2021.
